Spray parks are play areas for children equipped with a variety of interactive water play equipment – from water sprays and nozzles to fountains and a host of other highly engaging interactive play equipment. Unlike traditional water playgrounds, these typically feature a slip-resistant (fall protection) surface. Traditional water playgrounds, on the other hand, focus more on water play via paddle wheels, sluices, and special channel systems.
Whether in outdoor pools and amusement parks or as a complement to urban play areas, so-called spray parks not only stimulate the playful instincts of many children due to their highly engaging nature and interactive play elements, but also promise a cooling effect, especially in increasingly hot summers. However, as soon as water comes into play, specialist planners must consider not only design aspects and the safety requirements for playground equipment stipulated in DIN 1176, but above all, the specific requirements for safe water handling, hygiene, and, last but not least, sustainability aspects.
